What’s the big deal with Positive Psychology?

The next few weeks, I’m writing about Positive Psychology – a large contributing factor to our coaching practice here at LIV.

Let’s start with what Positive Psychology is in a nutshell.

Overall, positive psychology is a facilitative approach that encourages individuals to identify and use their strengths and attributes to overcome challenges, enhance their well-being, and create a more fulfilling life.

It’s not simply a focus on what makes life better or a prescription for happiness, but a holistic approach that recognizes the complexity of human experience and the importance of cultivating positive qualities to navigate through life's ups and downs.

It seems we humans are conditioned to focus on the negatives and weaknesses. That’s what we hear on the news, that’s what we gravitate when we think about things, or have a conversation. Nine out ten things can go right and we focus on the one thing that didn’t. That conditioning can sap energy and brain power. It can curtail creativity, agility, and confidence.

The positive psychology framework helps us shift our mindset and ultimately our energy, brain power, creativity, agility, and confidence. Imagine the effects of this on your leadership capabilities.
