I want to be self-compassionate, but how?

Two weeks ago, I started a series. I’m focusing on how – actual behaviors you can practice and see how they feel for you.

Two weeks ago it was Courage; last week it was Curiosity; Today is SELF-COMPASSION. Here’s five behaviors you can try on and see if they resonate:

1.    Practice self-care: Prioritize self-care to maintain your physical, mental, and emotional health. Take breaks, exercise, and engage in activities that help you relax and recharge.

2.    Acknowledge your limitations: Be honest with yourself about your strengths and limitations. Don't be too hard on yourself when things don't go according to plan and be willing to ask for help when you need it.

3.    Celebrate your successes: Celebrate your achievements, both big and small. Take time to recognize your hard work and accomplishments and share your successes with your team.

4.    Practice mindfulness: Practice mindfulness to develop self-awareness and emotional regulation. Mindfulness can help you stay calm and focused in stressful situations, and help you respond to challenges with greater clarity and perspective.

5.    Embrace imperfection: Recognize that perfection is not attainable, and that making mistakes is a natural part of the learning process. Be kind and patient with yourself, and view mistakes as opportunities for growth and learning.

Remember that self-compassion is not a sign of weakness, but rather a key component of effective leadership. Cultivating self-compassion can help you build stronger relationships with your team, increase your resilience, and lead with greater authenticity and empathy.
