Behavior Patterns

Leading staff can be a series of questions and ‘what to do?’ at times.

Seeing a routine outcome of how a person’s behavior affects others is a pattern.

This can be positive OR negative.

If staff feel respected, heard, happy…. after an interacting with a certain fellow staff member, that’s a positive pattern.

If they feel disrespected, unheard, and frustrated, that’s a negative pattern.

What to do?

In your leadership position, you need to acknowledge either.

Praise the positive.

Acknowledge the negative with an empathic stance – a mentor position – using specific examples to keep it real. They may not know they are impacting people that way. Work with them to create a new norm… then praise the change.
