What are the Stages of Relational Development between Leader and Contributor?

We begin with ‘position respect,’ then move up to ‘person respect.’ Next, as the relationship grows, ‘like’ develops - mutual like. When they really see each other with their strengths, growth needs, interests, and aspirations, they know each other as a person, who they are, we begin to ‘love’ - mutual love. It begins with like and strengthens in love when depth happens. They see the whole person, care about their welfare, growth, and feelings. You have each other's back and only want the other to succeed. AND it's mutual. It’s in the mutuality that the magic happens.

It's starts in ‘like’ but deepens dramatically in the ‘love’ where joy, gratitude, harmony, honesty, psychological safety, empathy, compassion, vulnerability-based trust… is internalized organically and felt daily.

It doesn’t mean you agree every day. It means you CAN disagree, and the love isn’t at stake. It means because you can disagree and have love, that all are able to rise.
