Learned Behavior
The last two weeks, I wrote about mind trap choice and about how defenses that can hijack you may fuel a mind trap. Here’s number two in the mind trap arsenal - learned behaviors.
Behaviors and be modeled for us - the same behavior over and over teaches us that that’s the way to think and behave especially if that person is influential in our life – even if we don’t like the behavior being exhibited by the other. The behavior becomes internalized, it becomes our own, and we don’t question it until others call it into question.
Often times, learned behavior is a good thing (values, ethics, kindness). Sometimes, it may lead to consequences (condescension, bias, blaming).
