Acceptance

What is acceptance really? You’ve likely heard the Serenity Prayer: “God, grant me the serenity to accept things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.”

More powerful than ever in our business life. The questions, ‘Who do I want to be?’ and “How do I want to be seen?’ helps shape each sentence.

“Grant me the serenity to accept things I cannot change.” There are things we cannot change, only our response to them, the power they have over us, and the potential to influence with our own behavior (what we actually have control over). Spending time trying to control or change another’s behaviors is most often futile and draining. Acceptance leads to peace. Internal and often external peace. The tension and animosity decreases.

“Courage to change the things I can.” That’s the mindset and feeling that fuels self-awareness and growth opportunities.

“Wisdom to know the difference.” Beliefs help us, or hinder us, with this portion. Judgment- being able to access danger - also helps here.

True acceptance is a strength.
