Active Listening 101

Active listening is a communication skill that involves fully engaging with the person who is speaking, both verbally and non-verbally. It involves giving your full attention to the speaker and making an effort to understand their message and perspective. This can involve asking clarifying and curious questions, paraphrasing what the speaker has said to show that you understand, and providing feedback to confirm that you have heard and understood their message.

Active listening also involves nonverbal communication, such as maintaining eye contact, nodding, and using appropriate facial expressions and body language to show that you are engaged and attentive. This helps to build rapport and trust with the speaker and can lead to more effective communication and problem-solving.

Overall, active listening is an important skill in personal and professional relationships, and can help to improve communication, build trust, and resolve conflicts.
